WikiLeaks site founder, Julian Assange, said in a documentary that he would face prosecution conducted by the Pentagon. He also expressed disappointment because the Swedish law has been misused.
"I came to Sweden as a refugee publisher involved with an extraordinary publishing fight with the Pentagon, where people were being detained and there is an attempt to prosecute me for espionage", Assange said in an interview in the documentary, aired on Swedish public television and reported by Reuters , Monday, December 13, 2010.
"So I am unhappy and disappointed with how the Swedish justice system has been abused", said this 39-year Australian-born man was in the documentary, which was made before his arrest.
Assange will appear in a court in London for the second time on Tuesday, December 14 2010. Assange was arrested in London following the arrest warrant issued by Sweden. He is being accused about rape and sexual harassment toward two women in Sweden.
Assange denied these allegations. According to him, there are some political motive regarding to this allegations, because the WikiLeaks site had angered the U.S. government by release hundreds thousands of U.S. diplomatic secret cable documents.
One of his lawyers, Jennifer Robinson, told ABC News in London, said the U.S. charges against Assange is already prepared, but the Australian news agency didn't give detail report about Robinson's comment, why he believes these charges tend to be filed.
U.S. Justice Department has been looking for various criminal charges againts him, including violations of 1917 Law about Espionage. It might be filed in cases involving WikiLeaks.
At the same time, Switzerland Postfinance, MasterCard, Visa, PayPal and other payment services have been cut off access to the WikiLeaks remittances, so the financial of that site now became disturbed.
Meanwhile, some former co-worker of Jullian Assange is planning to launch a new Web site as a WikiLeaks competitor named "OpenLeaks". It will be launched at Monday, December 13, 2010. Wow!
Former WikiLeaks spokesman Daniel Domscheit-Berg, who now joined OpenLeaks team said that his website will help disseminate sources of material that drive public attention by anonymous people.
"OpenLeaks is a technology project that aims to become the service provider to third parties who want to get material from anonymous sources," said Domscheit-Berg in an interview conducted in Berlin, Germany, as quoted by news.com.au, Saturday December 11, 2010.
Since WikiLeaks became popular worldwide a while ago, the emergence of similar sites had been predicted. OpenLeaks will be launched next Monday in Germany by a foundation that has not been revealed yet.
OpenLeaks appeared when WikiLeaks is under pressure and Assange is imprisoned in London, England.
Domscheit-Berg move to Openleaks for some reason. He said that one of the reasons he withdrew from the project is because Assange was not being transparent in making decisions.
"If you preach transparency for others, you must be transparent yourself. You must meet the same standards you expect from others," he said.
