Search Engine | Google Insight – Basic Backlinks Value

Everyone know Google and almost all of them use Google as their primary “yellow pages”. Looking for anything and whenever is only as far as your mouse and keyboard. Therefore, all webmasters are trying so hard to make their website / blog to appear on the first page result for specific keywords.

Not enough to just appear on the first page, they compete to win the number 1 position. But actually what are they doing and who will really can win the super position of number 1 Google?

Ok, before we get into that competition, it helps to know the basic and how search engine like Google works (this applies also to other search engines like Yahoo and Bing / MSN). Google will enter our site to their list of so-called index, if Googlebot / Google spider has already crawled it.

Many people say it’s easier for blog to get indexed and achieve better page result than the regular HTML website. It’s not exactly true. The only 100% true is that blog makes almost anything easier and faster, especially for content creation and content management than regular HTML website. And also there are thousands of plugins and features that very helpful to make your blog better and better. But if blogger (blog owner) didn’t use those blog features and plugins, it is really no different from regular HTML website and will not achieve good page listing.

The only difference that make each web pages indexed in Google on different position is an effort. Yup, effort. Every different effort will produce different results. Every webmaster and blogger can both got high search engine listing. But for any newbies / people that just started to create their first website, it’s a lot better for them to create / own a blog, since it is the most easiest way to make your own website without much hassle.

For now I will not explain about the making of a good blog, but more about the basics of how to achieve high page result in Google. The key is the backlinks or something called inbound links (both are the same). Backlink is a link from another web page (not yours) that directed to your website / blog. With more backlinks to our website, the better we are at the Google result and will increase our page rank too. But that does not mean 1000 backlinks is better than 100. Google and other search engines not only assess the quantity, but also the quality. The quality here, including the relevance and reputation from each website that linking to you.

What is pagerank and how it has something to do with backlinks? Simple, many quality and quantity backlinks means more pagerank. But you should not to be a backlinks obsession person. Let me show you an example:

“Why are my 297 links : (1 x PR7) + (25 x PR6) + (151 x PR5 + PR4) + (120 x PR3)
are nothing in Google’s eyes compared with my competitor’s site
which only has got 59 links : (4 x PR6) + (38 x PR5) + (17 x PR4)

That site is the first for the normal KW query and for allinanchor. How can it be true?”

Know the answer to the above case? Yeap, you’re right. As I said earlier that we should try to got links from other website / blog that are relevant, high quality and reputable. 5 links from reputable pagerank 5 sites are better than 100 links from new pagerank 1 sites. Website age is a big matter too for Google to calculate links weight / value. Older age mean more weight.

Many ways to get backlinks, but I think free ways is also the best one. Try to get backlinks from blog comments, forum, article directories, web 2.0 (like squidoo and hubpages), social bookmarking sites and video hosting sites (like youtube). It will takes a lot of time to do it, but all of your effort are worth the big result you can gain (means more traffic to your site too).

Interesting! Yes getting links from the more popular and better know websites and blogs can really work. We always worry and work on how to get that dream traffic on our site but it needs hard work….being active online can be helpful but how much time we should give to it is totally personal choice that how much we think is enough for the day and that will result in the amount of money we earn.

Hi James,
Ya, drive traffic to our site is a lot hard work.
We can’t just build website / blog and sit down to wait for visitors.
But with good plan and smart action, it will be matter of time we can get them into our site.

Thank you for your comment :)

Albert… thanks for the info! I started learning about backlinks 2 weeks ago from a friend and I am glad you decided to touch on this for the newbies out there. This is something they don\’t tell you in internet marketing, traffic courses.

I’m not sure that Google actually has methods of checking the relevancy of backlinks. More important factors would be simple things like the number of outgoing links from the website you get your link from. People somehow tend to forget about this ;-)

@Nem : Google used to count all links as the same without check how relevant the content from sites you get your links with your website content. But now Google changed it’s algorithm and content relevancy matters much. Links from unrelevant sites considered as little value as next to nothing. And also so many hundreds (if not thousands) factors how Google weigh your incoming links.

@All : Thank you for your comments :)
