McAfee has been taken by Intel (aka acquisition) on August 19, 2010. This is absolutely big news for those 2 companies and all of their customers. This will lead into the new future in internet and security.

I thought many of you perhaps do not know that Intel had to sell anti-virus division of the Symantec software in 1998. Now after 12 years, this giant vendor processor even taking over the giant security firm McAfee. So what is it's motivation?

Although many are wondering with these steps, Intel certainly has big calculation and taken into account for considering when it decided to buy McAfee. Moreover, the amount of funds that has been spending is not a little, a whopping USD 7.68 billion (wow, so many zeroes there).

To clear all doubts, Suzy Ramirez (a spokesman from Intel) said that this step is valued precisely, because Intel can combine all of it's hardware with McAfee applications which can create more secure wireless devices and reliability.

"We saw the (acquisition) of this as an opportunity to bring to the McAfee software and silicon products help Intel to strengthen its security and speed of the threat facing the increasingly sophisticated in today and the future," she explained, quoted from Tg Daily, Monday (23 / 8 / 2010).

An industry analyst, Rob Enderle explain that Intel is certainly moving into mobile business industry and embedded market. One of the mission is by acquiring McAfee to echance it's security for devices and applications

"Intel plans to provide a package solution that includes all security to block threats out there," he said.

"The way this is done by companies that base their business in the computer industry, by adding a security solution to the product being offered. This combination will give them significant advantages than their competitors,"  Rob continued.

Previously, Intel's Head of Software, Renee James stated that there are billions of devices that need to be protected globally. Because of that, the need of enhanced Internet security which embedded in the devices is represents a promising market opportunity for Intel.

Agreed with James, McAfee CEO Dave DeWalt emphasized that it's a great potential for internet security business as more people will use wireless devices in daily life.

As quoted from MCAfee News, Intel has achieve two main pillars to provide an energy efficient with great performance hardware as well as internet access. As it moving forward Intel then believe the security has become the third pillar of computer and make it more important in all segments.
