Google Ranking Factors - The main reason why most people don't survive in online marketing is because they didn't take their time to analyze the strength of the competition in their marketplace and SEO their website the wrong way. This means they will never get into the google top 10 page one rankings, which also means they never get (free) targeted traffic to their website. No traffic = no sales = no money.

There are only 3 major factors (although there are hundreds factors, but these 3 have major impact) which influence your ranking a lot in Google (and also in most of major search engines).

    Let's take a look :

    1. Number of Incoming Links

Here is the better way to look at it. Each of incoming links is like a vote. More votes mean more weight. If there are a lot of websites that linking to yours, that give search engine strong signal that you must have good quality content, therefor giving you some boost in their ranking.

    2. Authority of Linking Pages

More authority means more trust and more influence. Authority can be divided as 2 factors, Domain Age and PageRank.

Let's say we have 2 websites that has each 3 other websites linking to. The first websites has 3 incoming links each from 3 new websites (domain age about 3 months) with new bloggers who just learn about blogging.

The second website has 3 incoming links each from CNN.com, USA.gov, and NASA.gov. Guess which website has more ranking power? Yes you're right, the second website has more power thus get big boost in ranking because the incoming links are from high authority websites.

    3. Anchor Text of Incoming Links

Most of search engine companies use the text of links that pointing to your page. It's called anchor text. The purpose is to get a better consideration what this particular page content is about. If a website has 3 incoming links with anchor text "dog training", it's a very likely that the page they refer is about dog training.

When a website get more incoming links with the particular term / keyword on their anchor text, then it has a good change to climb up in ranking.

Next, I want to give you a brief about how Google measure the level of authority.

    1. Domain Age

The older the domain age, the higher authority it has. So it's possible to outrank several sites with only authority power without incoming links (yes, that's true in how it is). So if you have domains each with age older than 2 years, congrats guys, just keep it and build as it's becoming an authority site in Google eyes.

    2. PageRank

PageRank or PR is a measurement from Google how important the page is. PageRank ranged between 0 - 10. It's also indicates the level of authority. The higher the PageRank, more authority the page has.

A brand new website homepage always start with PR 0 after it indexed in Google. High authority website like USA.gov has PR 10 for it's homepage.

Something to remember is PageRank scale is not linear. Not like PR 0 = Authority 0, PR 1 = Authority 1. Instead when you get higher PR, it scale up 10 times for authority level.

This means a site with PR 1 is 10 times more authority than a site with PR 0. Then a site with PR 5 has 100,000 times more authority than a site with PR 0. So it will be more powerful to get just 1 link from a PR 5 site (with more than 2 years domain age) than 1000 links from 1000 PR 0 new sites.
