Google Image, a web image search service from Google now has a new look. As soon as it showed in the United States, the design rapidly spread all over the world.
As the very first launch in 2001, Google had practically never changed it's appearance. In cases where further observed, in the beginning, this specific design is nearly similar with the Bing.
"Our goal out of Google Image update to match the scope of the picture, with growth of the visual content of the web faster," said Nate Smith as Product Manager of Google, Wednesday (21/07/2010).
Also Nate then said that Google is expecting it's users not alone easier to search for an image, but get brand new experiences in their search engine.
Google's new display of this particular image is actually way more neatly, with no direct info that it has text below the image. Alternatively, people are able to mouseover for image information. At the same time, inside the left column, users can continue to browse for images determined by the type and size.
Google then introducing more advanced computer visualization technology that supporting "Similar images" tool. For example, how can you find some subspecies of African and Asian elephants? Google Images can easily recognize the difference, returning results just elephants of a specific subspecies.
It can certainly tell you the name of the subspecies in certain image even though that it is not labeled since many other similar elephant images on the internet are labeled by that subspecies's name.
New Features for Google Images:
- Rich tiled layout designed which means it is easy to see so many images at the same time.
- Quick scrolling amongst pages, without getting lost in 'the sea' of images. It's now can show up to 1,000 images, all in a single scrolling page. Also you can track of where you are now with unobtrusive page numbers.
- Bigger thumbnail previews on the results page, created for advanced browsers and high-resolution displays.
- A hover show up that will appears any time you mouse over a given thumbnail image, letting you have a better preview, more information about the image along with other image exclusive features like “Similar images"
- As you click on an image, you will be re-directing to a new landing page that shows a big image in context, having the website where it's hosted on visible right behind it. If you click on an area outside the image, you will get into the original page where you can learn more about the image and it's context / source.
- Fully optimized keyboard navigation for fast scrolling through a lot of pages, utilizing typical web keyboard shortcuts such as Page Up / Page Down. It's intended to make you get what information you needed very fast.
Also good news for Google Adwords users which now they can advertise on Google Images to find their customers. This new ad format named Image Search Ads. Like the name says, the ads only appear on Google Images.
